Kolarctic Salmon – the Atlantic Salmon in the Barents region
Hankkeessa toteutettiin suurin tähän mennessä tehty lohien geenitutkimus, ja se tuotti tieteellisesti kestävää tietoa. (Yhteensä, vuosina 2008-2012 kerättiin näytteet 20 976 Norjan rannikkoalueilta pyydetystä lohesta ja 2259 Venäjän rannikolla pyydetystä lohesta. Näytteiden genotyypit märiteltiin onnistuneesti ja tietoja käytettiin hankkeen suorittamassa myöhemmässä tilastollisessa tutkimuksessa. Tutkijat kartoittivat alueen lohien geneettiset rakenteet. Lohikantojen vaellusmalleista Barentsin merellä ja Valkoisella merellä saatiin varmistettua tietoa. Tutkimus tarjosi myös tietoa alueen lohiresursseista. Tutkimukset ovat viranomaisten käytettävissä kaikissa hankkeeseen osallistuvissa maissa, ja niitä voidaan käyttää tausta-aineistona jatkossa kun keskustellaan lohenkalastuksen säätelystä ja tehdään sitä koskevia päätöksiä.
