Hardyn historiaa ja luettelot

Hardyllä on pitkät perinteet kalastusvälineiden valmistajana. Vuonna 1874 veljekset William Hardy ja John James Hardy aloittivat Hardy Brothersin ostamalla “Superior River and Sea Fishing Tackle” -tarvikkeen Alnwickissä, Northumberlandissa Englannissa.

 

 

Vuonna 1891 he patentoivat ja julkaisivat “Perfect” -kelan täydentämään myymiään vieheitä. Siitä tuli menestys. Vuonna 1897 he avasivat myymälän Lontoon Pall Mall -ostoskeskukseen.

Vuonna 1967 Harris ja Sheldon -ryhmä osti Hardy Brothersin, ja vuonna 1985 se nimettiin uudelleen nimellä “House of Hardy Limited”. Myöhemmin se sulautettiin entisen Hardyn työntekijän kalastusyritykseen ja nimettiin uudelleen Hardy and Grays Limitediksi vuonna 2004. Vuonna 2008 Hardyn talon historiasta tehtiin dokumentti, The Lost Word of Mr Hardy

Vuonna 2013 Hardy & Grays -yritys myytiin Pure Fishing -ryhmälle, Jglk-ryhmittymän divisioonalle, joka myöhemmin nimettiin uudelleen Newell Brandsiksi . Newell myi Pure Fishingin  Sycamore Partnersille vuonna 2018.

Hardyn vavoista

Aluksi valmistettiin lancewood-, hickory- ja greenheart-vapoja, mutta vuoteen 1880 mennessä valikoimaan oli tuli bambu. Hardy oli ensimmäinen valmistaja, joka keksi miten kuusikulmaisset vavat rakenetaan bambusta. Hardy Palakona bambuvapa voitti Yhtiön ensimmäisen näyttelykultamitalin vuonna 1881.

Ensimmäinen lasikuitupa,  Palaglass Fly (1954-57), tuli markkinoille vuonna 1954.

Hardy rakensi ensimmäiset hiilikuituvavat joskus vuoden 1967 lopun ja vuoden 1968 alun välillä. Tuotantoon ne tulivat 1971 (patent number GB1351732 was granted jointly in 19th April 1971 to R. Walker, W. Hardy & L. Phillips.)

Vanhat Hardyn luettelot ovat keräilijöiden suosiossa, hinnat on sen mukaiset. Ensimmäinen luettelo ilmestyi vuonna 1883. 1800-luvun ja 1900- luvun alun luettelot ovat  keräilyharvinaisuuksia. Niistä on otettu uusia painoksia ainakin vuonna 2000. Luetteloita ei ole ilmestynyt suomeksi.  Hardyn kalastusvälineistä on tehty myös lukuisia teoksia
